A biopic on badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, the man who is instrumental in shaping up the careers of popular players like Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu, has been in the discussion stages from the past 18 months. Young Telugu actor Sudheer Babu, who watched Gopichand at close quarters and shares a good rapport with him, will play the lead role in this interesting biopic that will be simultaneously made in Telugu and Hindi.
To be helmed by award winning filmmaker Praveen Sattaru, the bilingual biopic will be produced by Abhishek Pictures. The latest update reveals that the script has been locked and the project is all set to go on floors in November. The biopic will be predominantly shot in Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bangalore and Birmingham. The project gained more prominence in the last couple of days after Gopichand’s student PV Sindhu won the silver medal at Rio Olympics.
Initially, Gopichand was reluctant about his biopic, but the makers have convinced him that the inspiring story must to told on big screen. Reportedly, Gopichand also took part in the script work and gave some inputs to the director.
