Viswam Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating: 2.25/5
Srinu Vaitla has redefined entertainment in Telugu cinema and he has delivered some of the best comic entertainers in Tollywood. Anandam, Venky, Dubai Srinu, Dhee, Ready, Dhookudu, Baadshah are his best films. All these films are laced with ample entertainment and they can be even watched today. Srinu Vaitla added commercial ingredients and worked with stars and he scored massive hits in the past. Over the years, his career graph reached rock bottom and he has been struggling for success. It has been five years since Srinu Vaitla directed a film. He teamed up with Gopichand and the film titled Viswam is released today. Gopichand too hasn’t tasted success and here is the review of Viswam:
Story:
A Pakistan-based terrorist (Jisshu Sengupta) has plans to exploit India and he commits a murder. A small girl witnesses the crime and he targets the girl. Gopi (Gopichand) protects the small girl from the acts of the terrorist. The rest of Viswam is all about the relationship between Gopi and the girl and what happens next forms the story of Viswam.
Analysis:
Viswam has a simple plot like the previous films of Srinu Vaitla. It is the quality of entertainment that drives the films of Srinu Vaitla. But Viswam falls short of expectations. Viswam starts on a serious note discussing about terroris and terror attacks on the nation. Soon, Gopichand makes his entry in style and stands as a tall support for the innocent girl. Right after this, every scene resembles the past films of Srinu Vaitla. Almost all the episodes are inspired from his previous films. Srinu Vaitla tries hard to convince the audience with entertainment but unfortunately it never works out.
Srinu Vaitla has repeated the formula of the supporting actors playing a crucial role in the mission of the lead actor. He used the same formula in Viswam and the film has a bunch of actors and comedians. There is no originality in the drama or the entertainment. Srinu Vaitla has delivered quality and organic entertainment in the past and this misses in Viswam. The entire team was super confident on the train episode and it is full of lags and outdated entertainment. Srinu Vaitla falls short of expectations as his comic touch goes missing in the train episode. The flashback episode of Gopichand in Viswam is completely outdated and it doesn’t impress the audience.
After watching Viswam, one comes to a conclusion that Srinu Vaitla did not focus on the story or the plot. The audience are not very interested in watching regular commercial films. When such films are told, the director should be focused more on the entertainment and a gripping narration. Srinu Vaitla fails badly in all the available ways in Viswam. The film is a mix of many previous films of Srinu Vaitla and the entire narration is outdated.
Performance:
Gopichand seems like he has trusted Srinu Vaitla and did whatever he said. Gopichand has done entertainment in the past and he is an expert in action. Viswam has loads of outdated entertainment and action stunts throughout. Gopichand has done his part well but it doesn’t save the film. Kavya Thapar is restricted to glamorous scenes and songs. Kavya’s presence in the Italy episode will not appeal to the audience. Vennela Kishore tried his best but he too could not save the film. There is no strength in the writing. The performances of Naresh and Pragathi went over the board. Prudhvi was decent with his work. Srinu Vaitla had plans to rope in Brahmanandam for the role but he was replaced with Prudhvi in the last minute.
People Media Factory have spent lavishly on the film. Every frame looked rich on screen. The film is also shot across several beautiful locations of Europe, Goa, Manali, Kashmir and Hyderabad. The visuals are rich. Guhan’s cinematography work is an asset for Viswam. The songs are not catchy and the background score too fails to make an impact. Viswam is one more misfire from Srinu Vaitla and Gopichand. The duo comes with an outdated idea and the film falls short of expectations.
