After laying foundation stone for the temporary secretariat at Velagapudi in Tullur Mandal in Amaravati capital region, he said the he would daily attend the secretariat and make his office there his base.
” Amaravati starts functioning as capital from June 15,” he said. The temporary capital is being built on 45.129 acre at a cost of about Rs 200 cr. Amid chants of pundits Naidu performed the rituals for the construction of the temporary secretariat, accompanied by Speaker Kodela Sivaprasadrao, deputy speaker M Buddha Prasad, cabinet colleagues and senior leaders.
Extolling the people of the region for coming forward to offer their land for the Capital project, Naidu called upon the people of Guntur and Vijayawada towns not to be exacting by collecting heavy rents from the people coming here with the aim of operating from the Capital. ” 15,000 state government employees will come to work from Amaravati. They need 15000 houses. You should prove your hospitality. Don’t collect high rents and torment your guests. Very soon they will have their own houses and but till then you need to pay host,:” he said.
Naidu categorically stated that what was being built in Velagapudi was not a temporary structure and this day heralds a new chapter in the history of Andhra Pradesh.
” It is a permanent building with world quality design. It’s not a temporary structure as some people calling. Once the capital is ready, the secretariat will move to the new site and this building will be used for some other purpose. It won’t lie idle,” he said adding that the building would be 1+8 structure.
” This structure will stand symbol of capital formation in Amaravati. It will tell the story of history of capital to the future generations. If anybody visits the building some time in distant future, this building would remind them that this was the structure where the secretariat of the state first stationed and later shifted to the seed capital,” Naidu said.
Taking a dig at Opposition leader, though without referring to name of YSRP leader Jaganmohan Reddy, chief minister Naidu asked him not to create problems to the Maha Karyam.
“Has he ever made any suggestion to the capital? Instead, he is creating problems. I tell him, to extend support to the project. If you have no inclination to cooperate, keep quiet,” Naidu asked and added that “State is in troubles. Don’t aggravate the situation.”
Naidu was all praise of the employees. ” These were the people who fought heroically to preserve the unity of the Telugu states. This temporary capital is being constructed only for the convenience of governance. All the employees will come to Amaravarti and you will see full government operating from the capital from June 15,” he said.
