In a big surprise to Overseas trade circles, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Gauthamiputra Satakarni is all set to emerge as Sankranthi winner at the box office in terms of return on investment. The film is going great guns in all major areas with houseful collections. At this pace, trade is expecting the film to collect close to $ 1.5 M in its full run.
The film opened on a strong note in overseas with $ 373k on Wednesday and collected $ 137K and $ 176K in the next two days to breach the half million mark. As per latest trade reports , the historical drama has notched up close to $ 200K on Saturday ( still counting) and heading towards the 1 Million mark. The break even mark is between $ 1.1M – 1.2M and the distributor is expected to breakeven by Sunday and is all set to make 20-30% profit. With Monday being a holiday, the film is expected to extend its run and ensure profits for all parties involved. Well planned schedules and good word of mouth is working in favor for the film. The commendable performances by the lead cast and the top technical values are the biggest assets for the film. GPS is priced at $15-16.
On the other side, Chiranjeevi’s comeback film Khaidi No 150 is falling short of trade expectations from day 2. After taking a grand stand with a record breaking $ 1.2M from its premiers, the film has slowed down and registered average collections in the next three days. The per screen averages are lower than GPS and priced at $20. The break even mark ( $2.2-$2.5M) is still a long way to go. Fans are complaining that schedules are not planned correctly in some major locations and it has impacted the collections. The film has collected less than GPSK Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
