Just like their male counterparts, lady superstars also largely dominated the Tollywood scene untill recently. The scenario is slowly changing as young and happening beauties are now ruling the roost and giving all leading heroines a run for their money. If we look at the career graph of some of the leading heroines who come under the ‘ Star Heroine’ tag, one can witness a steady decrease in the number of projects they have in hand compared to the films they did in previous years.
Considering the number of big ticket films signed by leading heroines like Anushka, Samantha, Tamannaah, Shruthi Hassan, Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh, who were usually the most preferred actresses by filmmakers of star heroes projects till recently , it clearly shows that they are short of offers. Previously, they used to juggle between multiple projects at a time. That trend has now changed drastically.
For example, Anushka had one film ready for release and she hadn’t signed any other films in recent times after Baahubali. Tamannaah and Shruti Hassan are also been not approached for any big ticket films. Samantha and Kajal Aggarwal are left with only a couple of notable offers. The same is the story of Rakul Preet’s career.
Only Nayanatara is chipping away with some meaty offers both in Tollywood and Kollywood.
Happening beauties like Keerthi Suresh, Sai Pallavi, Anu Emanuel, Nivedha Thomas, Anupama Parameshwaran etc. are currently dominating Tollywood. Most of the plump roles either in big ticket or medium budget films are being offered to these new faces as they are charging an affordable remuneration. All these young heroines are now flooded with numerous offers in Tollywood and they are likely to dominate the Telugu cinema scene for the next couple of years.
Also, the increasing market for our films beyond Telugu states is forcing our filmmakers to recruit heroines from Bollywood. Prabhas’ Saaho and Mahesh Babu’s Bharat Ane Nenu have Bollywood divas paired opposite them.
