Gone are the days of happy hours as Hyderabad traffic police are now cracking a whip on drunkard drivers during the day. Definitely this would give a tough time for these suicide bombers on roads. Traffic police have started a pilot project of daytime drink and drive checks in major junctions of the city. This weekend police conducted special drives during afternoon from 2 pm to 5 pm at Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Begumpet, Secunderabad, Abids.
According to police sources, they are keeping a vigil near pubs and bars in plainclothes and passing on the information to next available checkpoints in wireless sets. It is reported that their pilot project has yielded good results and with this result, the additional CP of Traffic Jitender has ordered to set more check points in the coming days.
During the last weekend, 82 drunk and drive cases were registered including two-wheeler drivers, autowallas and four-wheeler drivers. All of the will be called for counseling and later they will be awarded with a fine upto Rs 5000 and imprisonment depending on their blood alcohol level. The permissible limit is 30mg/100 ml.
Motorists say that this initiative of traffic police will yield results and this will give a check to drunkard drivers who create nuisance on roads. So it is time to give up your happy hours during day time.
