Mumbai: Badminton star and Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and her coach Pullela Gopichand were on Wednesday felicitated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. A cash award of Rs 75 lakh to Sindhu and Rs 25 lakh to Gopichand were given away by the Maharashtra State Badminton Association. The Maharashtra Chief Minister too announced the same amount of cash reward to Sindhu and Gopichand on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Fadnavis hailed Sindhu for her exploits in Rio Olympics by clinching silver medal in the badminton tournament. “Happy moment for the country that the girls are shining in sports,” he remarked. Congratulating Sindhu, the CM wished that the Hyderabadi girl would bring more laurels to the country in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindhu thanked the Maharashtra CM for felicitating her. “It’s a great privilege to be hear, thank you sir,” she said.
It may be recalled that the governments of both the Telugu States, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several businessmen announced a huge cash award for PV Sindhu and her longtime coach Gopichand, soon after she won silver medal in the recently concluded Rio Olympics.
