Though both the governments in Telugu states seems to be unhappy with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s last night address to the nation in the post-demonetisation period, it was only Telangana’s Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao expressed his displeasure openly. It may be recalled that the both the Chief Ministers have strongly supported the Prime Minister’s move and they are leading the country in implementing cash less transactions.
Harish Rao said today that he was disappointed with Modi’s address. “I expected he would announce several measures benefiting the poor and also some good to the Telangana state, but failed to benefit any one”, he said.
He also deplored that Prime Minister’s address failed to create new hopes among the people on their future.
Though both TRS and TDP leaders didn’t exposed themselves, they have expected that the Prime Minister would explain the people how far he was succeeded in meeting four aims that he was revealed while announcing this move on November 8. They include curbs on black money and fake currency.
But failure of the Prime Minister in mentioning these issues at the end of the drive, Telugu parties’ fears may send `wrong message’ among people against them for extending `blind support’ to the move.
It may be recalled that at the beginning of the demonetisation move, senior Telangana ministers went New Delhi and urged Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to find out some way to reimburse the revenue losses they are facing due to this exercise. Later, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao also during his meetings with Prime Minister makes such suggestions. But to their surprise, none of such please seems to be considered by the Prime Minister.
The opposition openly branded it as “lacklustre” address. Congress called the Prime Minister a merchant of “false promises” and wondered why he did not mention how many “lakhs of crores” in black money and fake currencies the government managed to wipe out through demonetisation in the last 50 days. The Left parties charged the Prime Minister with delivering a “budget speech” in view of forthcoming assembly polls in UP and some other states.
