Seed bombs will start exploding in Telangana state which is gearing up for the third phase of the ‘Telangana Ku Haritha Haram’ programme to embark in first week of July. Concerned officials in districts have initiated necessary steps for successful implementation of Phase III.
As per the reports, in the erstwhile Adilabad district, only 15 percent of the saplings planted under Haritha Haaram programme have survived. Similar conditions were observed after the second phase in Nizambad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda districts. Haritha Haram plants withering away due to lack of water and various other reasons.
The plants that were distributed for planting were thrown away and some of them were allegedly burnt without rooting them. Raghavpur mandal of Pedhapalli Rural on Wednesday stands as a witness for this dire negligence of the officials. Even though there are lot of assigned and government lands in the region, the authorities left the saplings without planting them.
In the first two phases, saplings were raised in nurseries. The state government is engrossed with the preparations for the implementation of the third edition which aims to plant 44 crore saplings using seed ball method of sowing. Ministry of Forests is apparently planning to toss at least one crore seed balls.
While the seed bombing method will stop the throwing away of the saplings grown in nurseries, the next step of taking care of plants after they start growing is vital. Officials are not taking abundant measures to save the plants from withering away. Mere distribution of plants doesn’t suffice, the issue of planting, protection and ensuring survival of plants must be addressed.
With the idea of increase the green cover from 24percent to 33percent, the government of Telangana in 2015 launched The “Telangana ku Haritha Haram” programme
