The inaugural of the new assembly building at Velagapudi in the capital (Amaravati) witnessed influx of emotions. The building is all set for its first Budget session from March 6 post bifurcation of the State in the new capital. The state’s budget will be put forth on March13th. The state-of-the-art interim building which has Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council was built in 192 days. With the modern audio system, the assembly session can avoid unruly scenes of breaking mikes.
The function was more of a TDP gig. The absence of the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly YS Jagan at the inaugural function was felt. While TDP leaders claim that the leader did not accept the invitation, the YSRCP leaders argued that they were not invited in first place. If a thing is worth doing, it’s worth doing well. It would have been a great if both the leaders were present on this historic event.
Their absence is an advantage to TDP who could garner more lime light. Both the leaders are people’s representatives, and for the sake people the parties should have set their animosity aside. In Delhi all the parties keep aside their differences and participate in the official celebrations. As a goodwill Chandrababu Naidu should now take a step forward to create harmony with the opposition party like he did with KCR.
The leaders can have elaborate theories about how the opposition should behave, but often forgot that an ounce of common sense is worth a pound of theory. Anyways let’s hope that the opposition leader is invited and attends the permanent building inaugural in 2019. In fact the buildings inaugurated are temporary in nature. London-based architect firm Foster and Partners are working now on the designs for capital development which includes the Assembly and Council buildings.
