Majority villages in Rayadurgam assembly segment in Anantapur districts are dominated by backward classes voters. This time, polling percentage in these BC villages went above 90 per cent. Analysts say that most of this BC vote bank is caste in favour of TDP candidate and Minister Kalava Srinivasulu. The main reasons for this speculation is that BCs are traditional vote bank of TDP while welfare schemes have further created a better mood.
Though the YCP is relying on the anti-incumbency factor, it is not strongly present in Rayadurgam. Some mandals and villages are located nearer to the Karnataka border. The numerically strong BC voters and women’s pro-government vote are expected to be the strong points for TDP. These factors have made the Minister’s followers confident of getting anywhere above 10,000 majority in the segment.
Even the rival YCP is not having big hopes on Rayadurgam. Their election advisers concentrated on winning this segment somehow by using money and muscle power but the higher turnout of voters on the polling day changed the equations altogether.
