Gautamiputra Satakarni Case, GPSK tax
Based on the PIL filed by CB Adarsh Kumar, the Hyderabad High Court has directed the Andhra Pradesh government to state the procedure it followed while granting tax exemption to actor – MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna’s recent historic film Gautamiputra Satakarni. The court has also sought to produce the documents relating to the grant of exemption.
It is a known fact that both Andhra and Telangana governments exempted the producers of Gautamiputra Satakarni from paying entertainment tax, considering that the film is about Telugu ruler Satakarni.
The hyd based petitioner alleged that the AP government exempted the entertainment tax by violating the rules prescribed for granting such taxes and the Telangana government has formed a committee to peruse the matter and issued a government order to grant the exemption.
The case has been adjourned to January 31st for further hearing. The court has issued notices to both governments and producer to file counter affidavits.
It should also be noted that the ticket prices for films with tax exemption should be only 75 Percent of original price, but for Gautamiputra Satakarni there is no reduction in ticket prices.
