Hyderabad: Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday directed Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary to take action against 12 Telangana TDP MLAs, who had joined the ruling TRS party, within 90 days.
Welcoming the decision by the High Court, TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy termed the judgment a set back to the Telangana government.
It may be recalled that the Speaker merged the TDP Legislature Party (TDPLP) into the TRS Legislature Party following a request from the Errabelli Dayakar Rao. Total of 12 Telangana TDP MLAs had joined the TRS along with Errabelli.
The Speaker, however, had ignored the plea made by the TDP to disqualify the MLAs. On March 10, the Telangana Assembly Secretary issued a bulletin to apprise the members of the Assembly on merging the Telangana TDPLP with the TRS.
Telangana working president Revanth Reddy approached the High Court challenging the decision by the Speaker. Agreeing with Revanth Reddy’s petition, the Court gave its decision and stayed the bulletin issued by the Assembly Secretary.
Though there would be no impact on the defected 12 MLAs following the verdict, the imaged of the turn coats in the general public might get dented.
The judgement of the High Court will also applicable to the 20 YSRCP MLAs who had joined the ruling TDP government in Andhra Pradesh too.
