New Delhi: Amid intense drama in the national capital, Centre has finally decided to grant a special financial package of Rs 1,50,000 crore to residual State of Andhra Pradesh.
According to an unofficial reports leaked to the media, the Centre has decided to give a financial special package against the wishes of AP government. Meanwhile, protests erupted in Vijayawada, Guntur and Tirupati towns with the people coming on roads expressing anger over the Centre’s stand.
On Wednesday, about three issues, which are listed in the AP financial special package, gone for clearance to the PMO office in New Delhi. Later, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is expected to speak to the media persons.
Following a proposal that the Centre should take complete responsibility in finishing off the Polavaram Project on time, the Centre has decided to grant Rs 28,000 crore for the project.
It is learnt that a total of Rs 28,000 crore will be given through the NHAI for the construction of highways connecting the new capital city – Amaravati.
The Centre also calculated the benefits that AP could get if the Special Status is accorded. Andhra Pradesh would get a total of Rs 35,000 crore as benefits with the special package in the next five years.
Package of Rs 50,000 crore will be granted to all seven backward districts in the State in the next five years. Total of 12,000 crore worth four projects will be granted to ‘Commercial Corridor’ which was proposed by Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Total of Rs 10 crore to Amarvati. Total of Rs 5,000 crore have been allocated for setting up of 25 educational institutions in the State. About Rs 12,000 crore have been allocated for setting up of universities.
