Opposition YSRC leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy alleged that Telugu Desam government had changed the alignment of the flyover in Vijayawada city only to exempt a hotel belonging to party’s corporator from being demolished.
Jagan today visited the areas in Vijayawada which are facing the risk of being demolished and interacted with the poor. He said chief minister Chandrababu Naidu inhumanly was demolishing the houses of the poor to make way for the flyover . He said the government had not even given thought to issues of rehabilitation and compensation to the residents of these colonies, who he said, possessed documents of ownership.
He alleged that the motive to save the hotel of ruling party’s corporator led to the demolition of 120 house and another 500 house had been identified for the demolition.
” The occupants of these houses are legitimate owners of land. The people have been living in the colony for over 60 years and have been paying taxes to the municipality. Government has long back issued them B forms. On the pretext that the land belongs to the government, all the houses are being demolished mercilessly as part of the beautification of Vijayawada,” Jagan alleged.
Questioning the so called beautification of Vijayawada, the opposition leader said flyover was being shown as the reason for the demolition of the Houses at the heart of the City.
” Are these lands, which were owned legitimately by these people, so worthless not to be compensated ? Do these people not deserve any rehabilitation?” he asked.
Jagan stated that it was inhuman on the part of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to think that there should not be any slum and poor living on the route he travels every day.
Earlier, the said, the government grabbed the lands of farmers in the name of development of capital city, and now it wants to demolish the houses of the poor for the beautification of Vijayawada city.
” But the properties of ruling party leader have been spared,” he added. Stating that the act of revenue official had infringed on the basic human rights of the people, Jagan said his party would wage a battle against the demolition on the street and in courts.
” All our party MLAs will go on fast demanding justice to the residents of these colonies in Vijayawada,” he announced
