The essential process of deciding the fares for Hyderabad Metro Rail which will commence operations from November28, has been initiated . The Telangana Government wants the pricing to be less than other metros in the country and allegedly set an upper limit of Rs50.
“We have requested L&T to submit metro fare proposals this month. We are in favour of Rs 20 to Rs 50 price band. However, we will wait for their proposals before taking a final decision by mid-November,” said a senior official to Deccan Chronicle.
Here is break up of estimated prices for the first phase operation-
In 2011 Congress fixed the price range Rs 8 to Rs 19
In 2016 KTR announced in assembly that range would be between Rs 13 to Rs 25
In 2017 KTR allegedly favoured Rs 20 to Rs 50 band
While the final decision will be taken next month, L&T will be submitting the report on metro ticket rate this month.
As part of making profits, the metro was aligned with real-estate projects and 269acres of land was given to the builders. The project was been taken up in PPP mode, so that the L&T and HMRL can recover losses by constructing malls and commercial complexes in land assigned to them in prime locations of the city.
