As the public has been facing numerous problems, including traffic jams with the abnormal delay in the execution of Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project, the Telanagna government is now seems to be focusing for its speedy completion. After the review meeting of the Chief Minister last month, the government officials moving quickly to clear several obstacles coming on its way.
Telangana Chief Secretary K. Pradeep Chandra, who conducted a Special Task Force (STF) meeting on it progress yesterday, stressed the need for early completion. He also directed all the government departments involved in it to support the prestigious project, so that to execute in a fast track mode.
As per the concession agreement signed with the then government of united Andhra Pradesh in 2010, the project should have been completed by July 2017. The first phase should be opened for public by April, 2015. But present status indicates it would be impossible to be fully operational before December 2018. However, government is making efforts for partial operational before mid-2017.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said to be not shown much interest for about a year, after he comes to power. Almost the project was stalled on the plea of changes in alignment and some modification. However, last year the government seen green signal to continue as per original plan.
According to HMRL Managing Director N V S Reddy 61 km of foundations, 58 km of pillars and 49 km of viaduct have been completed. He also said that several long pending and critical properties like Transstroy building on Road No.5, Jubilee Hills, Padmahamsa apartments near ISKCON temple in Secunderabad, the top floor of Begumpet Post Office, Rahmat complex at Ameerpet junction, etc, have since been demolished recently.
With South Central Railway recently giving permissions for construction of RoB’s at the remaining 7 locations, Chilkalguda RoB work has been completed and RoB works at Alugaddabavi, Begumpet, Oliphenta, Lakdikapul and Malakpet have started.
