Visakhapatnam’s coastline has seen a surge in unauthorized buildings during the YSRCP government. This trend began after some structures were removed from Tenneti Park to Bhimili for violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. However, some affected people joined YSRCP and were allowed to rebuild, leading to more coastal encroachments.
On August 27, the AP Coastal Zone Management Authority received a complaint about Viragoo Pub operating illegally in Thimmapuram, Bhimili Kapuluppada. After investigation, the authority confirmed the violations and asked the local collector to take action.
The Viragoo Pub has been running for 18 months with a bar and restaurant license. However, it was originally permitted for residential use and is now engaging in commercial activities. The pub is located within 30 meters of the road, which goes against master plan rules. Additionally, it has failed to pay Rs. 20 lakhs in vacant land tax.
This case follows a pattern of controversial coastal developments in Visakhapatnam. Earlier, the Sea-Horse Bar was demolished when Vijayasai Reddy was in charge of YSRCP in Uttarandhra. Critics claim party leaders later took over the property through local negotiations. Now, it appears to be rebuilt and operating as a bar using an old excise license.
