Continuing his tirade against BJP for the third day, Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan today seems to be shifted his focus towards Supreme Court unintentionally. He questioned the wisdom of its directive that everyone should stand up and show respect when national anthem is played in cinema halls.
Following his tweets against BJP since last two days, attempting to question BJP’s `nationalism’ plank, he tweeted “a simple evening to spend time with family and friends to watch a movie has been made into a testing ground to prove one’s patriotism.”
Disapproving of the apex court’s direction, he said that he wanted to know why shouldn’t political parties begin their meetings with national anthem and why only cinemas? Why not the highest offices in the country. “Those who preach and enforce laws, why shouldn’t they lead us by example?” he asked.
The power star said that true patriotism will come into experience when an individual or a political party goes beyond caste, creed, class, religion, region ethnic and linguistic differences. True meaning of patriotism is deeply rooted in human values and it is holistic in nature, he said.
In this regard, he said reminded of American economist Thomas Sowell’s words: “Are we turning the law into a trap for honest people and bonanza for charlatans?”
Accusing the ruling party’s attempt of branding those who do not toe the line of the ruling party as anti-national, he asserted that in democracy, differing with ruling party’s opinion cannot be labelled as anti-national.
Even if they want to take such extreme view about their opponents, he suggested that first let them hear without stifling their voice. “They can then take the needed action. If they do anything in haste it will only backfire as it did in the JNU students’ sedition case”, he added.
