India is fully prepared to legally bring back its citizens who have migrated to the United States without proper documentation, stated External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. During his recent visit to the US for Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, Jaishankar addressed Indian journalists, emphasizing India’s support for legal migration while firmly opposing illegal practices.
Jaishankar clarified that while India supports lawful migration, it strongly condemns illegal immigration. He said, “If it is determined that any Indian citizen has entered another country illegally, including the US, we are ready to bring them back legally.”
The Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted India’s commitment to providing global opportunities for its talented and skilled citizens. He stated, “We fully support legal and justified migration. However, illegal immigration and human trafficking are serious issues that we strongly oppose.”
He further explained that illegal activities often lead to other criminal actions, which tarnish the country’s reputation. Therefore, India is always prepared to take necessary steps to address such situations. Responding to questions about reports of the Trump administration’s efforts to deport undocumented Indian immigrants, Jaishankar stated that the Indian government is closely reviewing the details of those being sent back. However, he clarified that the exact number of affected individuals is not yet clear.
“Delhi is examining the details of Indians being deported by the US. At this stage, we cannot specify how many people are involved,” he said. The Minister expressed confidence in the Trump administration’s leadership, stating that US-India relations remain strong and promising. He said, “President Trump and Prime Minister Modi share a robust relationship. The US is a trusted partner for India, and we have a history of successful collaboration.”
He also highlighted the US’s continued interest in strengthening ties with India, underscoring the importance of the strategic partnership between the two nations.
