V Epiq happens to be a pride for Nellore district film lovers and is one of the biggest screens in the world. V Epiq is the biggest theatre screen available in India and the posh multiplex screen is now shut. After the government of Andhra Pradesh issued GO 35 in the state, V Epiq which is located in Sullurpet is forced to sell prices at Rs 30 (maximum price) and the administration decided to shut down the screen from today as they will be unable to recover the maintenance charges. The management felt that they would lose a big amount if they continue to screen films at these minimal ticket prices.
Several exhibitors and theatre owners across AP voluntarily closed the theatres predicting huge losses ahead for these ticket prices. They informed the distributors about the situation. AP theatrical market is heading for a complete closure if the government continues to implement GO 35. Nani’s Shyam Singha Roy received a top-class response but the revenues are quite low in AP. Films like Pushpa and Akhanda suffered massive dents in AP. Films like RRR and Radhe Shyam are hitting the screens next month. We have to wait to see if the AP government rethinks about their decision or continues to trouble the exhibition industry.
