India 303/6, South Africa 179/10 (40 Overs)
As the Indian wrist spin duo; Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, took 8 for 69 in their 18 overs, the Proteas were rattled out for 179 in 40 overs. With this win, India lead the 6-match ODI series 3-0. Interestingly, this is the first time India beat South Africa in 3 consecutive ODIs. The 3rd ODI venue, Cape Town is boasted as the favourite venue for the Proteas. The South Africans came into the match with their star players; AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, and keeper Quinton de Kock, out with injuries.
Thanks to Rohit’s poor show, Rabada got him for a record 5th time on this tour so far. With Rohit back in the pavilion, Kohli arrived at the crease. Surviving a close call, thanks to the snicko, the Indian captain went on to bring his 2nd century in three matches, and 3rd on this tour. His unbeaten 160* took India to 303/6. Shikhar Dhawan’s 76 of 63 balls resulted in a 140-run 2nd wicket partnership with Kohli.
Kuldeep and Chahal took 4 a-piece, while Bumrah took 2 wickets. Except for JP Duminy’s knock of 51 from 83 balls, the rest of the South African batsman lacked character. Virat Kohli has been awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his scintillating knock of 160 runs.
