PM Modi has got a big shock from an unexpected corner over border tensions with Pakistan. All Indians are sad over the death of soldiers in Pukwama suicide bomb attack and they are currently praying for the release of Indian Air Force Pilot Abhinandan who is captured by Pakistan army. At such a serious time, BJP ex CM Yeddyurappa of Karnataka state made controversial and objectionable comments on their party’s brightened prospects after the surgical strikes.
Yeddyurappa said the BJP’s image got a big boost after the voters were praising Modi for giving brave leadership in the face of attacks by terrorists and also by Pakistan army. He said that this would help the BJP win nearly 22 MP seats in Karnataka in coming general elections. This is 8 seats in addition to 16 MP seats won by BJP in 2014 election in the state. There are a total of 28 MP seats in Karnataka. Congress and JDS are currently holding 10 and 2 seats respectively.
Yeddy’s comments triggered widespread protests from within and outside India. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party has tweeted mocking at Yeddy’s comment. It said some BJP leaders are counting electoral benefits out of border tensions in India while all others were bothering about the safe release of Abhinandan. Imran Khan’s party posed a question whether war is an election option.
