Congress Government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is using all the tricks in the playbook to go ahead with its controversial Musi Riverfront Development project. Much to the surprise of those opposing demolitions on the banks of Musi river, Revanth Sarkar seems to be turning it into a Hyderabad Vs Nalgonda conflict, raking up new political equations and agitations.
Undivided Nalgonda district MPs and MLAs have started holding meetings to mobilize farmers from Nalgonda area, where Musi flows and are raising a war cry with the motive of saving Nalgonda farmers agriculture fields from Musi pollution.
Already Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy had held a large meeting with Nalgona farmers and more such public gatherings are being planned by Congress public representatives to build support for Musi Riverfront Development.
Musi river which originates in Anantagiri forests near Vikaraabad, flows through Hyderabad and finally merges into Krishna river at Vadapally near Miryalguda. Through its journey, Musi gives life to agriculture activity in areas like Bhongir, Narkatpally, Tungathurty and others in undivided Nalgonda district.
It is a commonly known fact that Musi was clean and its water was used for even drinking purposes in undivided Nalgonda areas thirty years ago. But gradually it got polluted due to discharge of sewage and pollutants from Hyderabad areas, making it a hell for people in Nalanda areas.
Now, MLAs and MPs from undivided Nalgonda district are claiming that Musi River front development initiated by CM Revanth Reddy will address the pollution problem in Musi river and make it clean again. There is absolutely no doubt that there is a need to clean Musi. And, whoever takes up this herculean task will be lauded by public. But how committed is Congress Government towards Musi rejuvenation is a big question.
If making Musi pollution free and offering clean water to Nalgonda farmers was Congress Government’s intention, then why did not CM and his colleagues reveal this noble intention, even before the demolitions were taken up in the name of Musi Riverfront Development? Why did Nalgonda public representatives started thinking of cleaning Musi in the interest of farmers, only after Hyderabadis living on Musi banks started protesting against demolitions?
Opposition parties are rallying behind people living on the banks of Musi and are making moves to take on Revanth Sarkar, if Govt goes ahead with demolitions in the name of Musi Riverfront Development. On the otherside ruling party leaders are building up an agitation by mobilizing farmers from undivided Nalgonda district in support of Musi Riverfront Development. That effectively creates a situation where poor and middle class Hyderabadis are pitted against innocent farmers from undivided Nalgonda district.
