YSRCP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s two-and-a-half-years tenure as CM since June 2019, is full of confrontation with the judiciary.
Hardly a day passed for Jagan government in the last two and a half years without receiving bricabats from the courts, be it AP High Court or the Supreme Court.
The reason the Jagan government took several policy decisions and issued several controversial GOs (government orders) which do not stand legal scrutiny. Several petitions were filed in courts against Jagan government’s ‘unconstitutional decisions’. The courts struck down Jagan’s government’s policy decisions and GOs innumerable times.
Despite this, Jagan did not went back and continued to wage legal battles in courts by challenging the court orders. He frequently went to Supreme Court against High Court orders and there also he faced setbacks.
Jagan even resorted to unprecedented act of writing a letter to then Chief Justice of India Justice Bobde against Justice Ramana levelling serious allegations to block his appointment as Chief Justice of India.
YSRCP circles now say Jagan has become a ‘changed man’ now after meeting Chief Justice of India NV Ramana for the first time on Saturday.
Jagan had a one-to-one meeting with Justice Ramana at Novotel Hotel in Viayawada. During the meeting, Ramana asked him to work and take decisions within the constitutional framework and it will help him to avoid legal tangles and enable smooth functioning of his government.
Ramana told him that problems for any government come up only if they take decisions in violation of constitutional norms.
Jagan reportedly realised where he was going wrong as CM after meeting Justice Ramana and took a strong decision to abide by constitutional norms henceforth and not confront the judiciary without any valid reasons.
YSRCP circles say Jagan looks relaxed and relieved now after meeting Justice Ramana.
