Questioning the rationality of Andhra Pradesh government attempts to acquire 1.05 lakh acres farm lands in the name Bandar port under land pooling system, leader of opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy denounced anti-farmer policies of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Interacting with displaced farmers in those villages of Krishna district today, he wondered that when originally the GO was issued in 2012 to acquire 5,200 acres, Naidu who raised a hue and cry over the extent of land, how now forcefully acquiring more than a lakh acres.
Accusing that Naidu undertaking land acquisition in inflated propositions for the Bandar Port without passing on any benefit to the tiller, he said that the returns are very poor and discouraging and farmers are not willing to part with their land.
Villagers whose lands are under the scanner of land pooling have expressed dissent and apprehensions on the governance and have vehemently opposed to part with their land. Jaganmohan Reddy lamented that not just forceful acquisition of land but the compensation terms too are very shoddy and do not benefit the reluctant farmer and his policies will elect him out of office should elections be held in the coming two years.
He expressed concern that only 25 % of the value is being given in return and the Rs 3 lakh compensation would be staggered in ten years and when the value of the land increases manifold, the farmer would be left with nothing tangible and are strongly opposing the land pooling.
Assuring that he would fight it out and if Chandrababu rejected by people in the next polls, he said nothing more than 5,200 acres of land would be acquired for the Port.
