During his pre-election Padayatra, the then opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy promised pensions for poor SC, ST, Minority and BC women. After coming to power, he said in the Assembly itself that he has not made such promise. All of a sudden, Jagan Reddy Circar now announced a new scheme to give Rs. 75,000 for every poor Kapu woman in the next five years. Political circles are debating what would be the immediate reasons behind this special scheme only for a particular forward caste?
The YCP is confident of its permanent hold on the SC, ST and Minority vote banks. Right from the day it won power, the ruling party is bent upon increasing its vote share among BC and Kapu castes. While YCP is able to make some gains among BC voters, it is finding it difficult to attract Kapus in a big way.
Moreover, Pawan Kalyan has become a big hurdle for Jagan Reddy. Also, the TDP has got some vote share among Kapu community voters. To counter these aspects, CM Jagan has come out with a master plan to win over a good chunk of poor Kapu voters. CM apparently believes that this scheme will also prevent en masse transfer of Kapu votes for a possible TDP-Jana Sena alliance in 2023 Jamili election.
