CM Jaganmohan Reddy made a sensational announcement during the video conference with the District Collectors and SPs today. He said that the past records would be checked to see and give a Rs 7 Lakh compensation to all those farmers’ families who have not received any ex gratia for suicides by their family heads. This will be for the 2014-’19 period during which the TDP was in ruling.
Jagan told the officials that during the last five years, there were 1513 farmers suicides as per the District Crime Records Bureau but the previous government gave compensation only to 391 families. The other families should also get the ex gratia. Jagan asserted that nothing would fill the gap left by the death of a family head. The YCP government will work with the motto of care and concern for the farmers. The District Collector and the MLA concerned will visit the farmer’s family personally and hand over the ex gratia. A separate law is being brought to ensure that there will be no diversion of this well-intended scheme.
