These days, the biggest questions before YCP Regime are how to divert public attention from its government’s failures on sand, liquor, Capital and failure to deliver on Navaratnalu promises. CM Jaganmohan Reddy is also of the opinion that his government’s image has dipped to a considerable low in just five months. Against this backdrop, his advisers suggested a new strategy. This is to strip TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu of his opposition leader status.
If six MLAs resign from the TDP, it will eventually lead to Naidu losing his status. Then, he is just like any other MLA in the Assembly without special facilities or privileges. In a state Assembly, 10 per cent of total MLA seats is necessary to get opposition status. In the AP Assembly having 175 MLA seats, it will require 18 MLA seats for getting the Opposition party status. The TDP won 23 MLA seats in 2019 general election.
Already, Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi has announced his resignation from MLA seat. Now, the ruling YCP leaders are on the hunt to find another five TDP MLAs who have weaknesses. The same strategy would be used against them as in the case of Vamsi. The local police and official machinery will be used to harass these MLAs till they resign from their MLA seats. Once by-elections are held, that will be another chance for YCP to prove its strength once again.
