After police disrupted the fast of Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, YSR Congress is planning to meet Prime Minister Modi on October 22. Though its leader had to stop the fast following the police intervention, the party want to continue its protest. It has chalked out an agitation programme till October 21. In the meantime it seek an appointment with the Prime Minister to apprise him of the situation.
‘We will hold a protest march tomorrow at Vijayawada to the Chief Minister’s camp office condemning the police action in foiling the fast of our leader and seeking special status to the state,’ party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu told reporters after an emergency meeting of senior leaders in wake of the developments leading to the hospitalization of the Leader of Opposition here on Tuesday. The party leaders also met YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the hospital. The Party President will be writing a letter to the Prime Minister seeking an appointment during the latter’s visit to the state on October 22, for the foundation stone ceremony of the new capital and he will be reminded of the promise of according special status to the state.
The agitation programmes will be held from October 17 to 21seeking special status and the party will continue to mount pressure seeking special status. On October 18, rallies will be held at all assembly constituency headquarters demanding special status and on the next day party cadre and sympathizers will picket all government offices. There will be candle light rallies on October 20 highlighting the need for special status and on the eve of the Prime Minister’s arrival, there will be dharnas at all bus depots on October 21.
Depending on the response of Prime Minister’s reply, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be meeting him with the request of according special status to the state which will pave way for the development, he said.
