Next hotspot YSR Congress party president and Opposition leader YS Jagan scheduled to visit is Bhogapuram, where local farmers are up in arms against the state government proposed to develop a green-field International airport. On the eve of his proposed indefinite fast to demand immediate announcement of special category state status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh from Nallapadu in Guntur from October 7, Jagan has been visiting many hotspots where farmer are agitating against the government proposal to acquire their lands for industrial hubs. He visited Capital region villages, Bandar port villages, Kurnool villages, and two days back he interacted with the tobacco farmers in Tanguturu, Prakasam district, who are again fighting for remunerative prices. Earlier Jagan had university centre of Tirupati and Vizag and counseled the students to join his fight for SCS.
Now, Jagan is visiting Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district, on October5, just two days before the commencement of his fast and extend his support to the farmers, who are against to part with their lands for the airport. Farmers are not allowing the officials to enter the villages. A farmer Peda Krishna Murthy of Gudepuvalasa committed suicide following the government adamancy to go ahead on acquisition of land.
Now, government has initiated a survey of the lands by deploying three hundred police personnel, notwithstanding the farmers opposition, to provide security to the representatives of RITES who are survey duty. Amid this tension Jagan is visiting the area to meet farmers.
Yesterday Jagan met Governor ESL Narasimhan to brief about his programs and to people’s opposition to the acquisition of fertile lands for industries.
