AP Water Resources Minister Nimmakayala Ramanaidu has criticized that the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government has turned the Weligonda project in Prakasam district into a curse. Ministers Gottipati Ravikumar, Dola Bala Veeraanjaneya Swami, along with several MLAs, visited the Weligonda project site.
The ministers inspected the 2nd tunnel near Kotturu mandal in Dornala. From there, they visited the feeder canal at Kadaparajupalli, accompanied by Minister Nimmakayala, Collector Tameem Ansaria, and TDP in-charge Gottipati Lakshmi. Minister Nimmakayala himself rode a bike during the visit.
“The YSR Congress government has cheated the people of this region by starting the Weligonda project without completing it,” said Minister Nimmakayala. He stated that the previous government had undertaken the majority of the project works between 2014-19, but the current government has halted the progress.
The feeder canal should have a capacity of 11,500 cusecs, but now it can barely handle 10 cusecs without getting damaged. The minister directed officials to submit a report on the poor quality of the feeder canal. He said that once the Weligonda project is completed, it will provide irrigation water to 4 lakh acres.
“Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had promised to complete the Weligonda project in two phases, but the YSRCP government has only caused destruction wherever it went,” the minister alleged. He assured that the new government is committed to completing the Weligonda project and making the district green and prosperous.
