Telangana Chief Minister and TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao had accepted to merge his party with Congress when he assured that immediately he would be made as Pradesh Congress Committee president and announces him as Chief Ministerial candidate of the party in the polls.
This was revealed by former union minister and senior Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy. In an interview with a Telugu TV channel, Reddy said that he himself brought this proposal before him, for which he readily accepted.
However, he said that it was not materialised and he was not aware what happens as Congress high command didn’t consulted him later. He said that he had informed the Congress leadership that people would vote for Telangna to a party, but not two parties.
Though people are aware that it was Sonia Gandhi’s firmness helped for realised of separate state dream, he said that as it was KCR who was forefront of the agitation and people identified Telangana state with him with Telangana sentiment. I told the party it would take some time to convert Sonia’s image into votes.
The former union minister predicted that KCR has been losing his popularity drastically. Though this may not be reflecting in by-polls, he said our people are very wise and they would show their discretion at a time of changing chief minister or prime minister.
Just like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that Chandrasekhar Rao also `prisoner of their own creation’ and difficult to win back people. Besides disastrous defeat in 2014 polls, Reddy is confident that Congress is strong in Telangana and would certain return to power in 2019.
