At a time the issue of Special Status for Andhra Pradesh started taking back seat, the success of Tamil Nadu youth forcing both centre and state governments to issue an ordinance allowing Jallikattu sport, is likely to gain momentum for revival of this demand.
Already a campaign was started on social media by several citizens asking Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu what prevents him from securing Special Status from the Centre, when a three-day protest helped Tamils.
Taking a lead from Tamils, Rajya Sabha member Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao asked Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to lead a massive agitation on the lines of the one that was held at Marina beach in Chennai demanding ordinance for Jallikattu, to get special status for the State.
In a letter to Naidu, Rao deplored that when Tamil Nadu had achieved what it wanted in three days, why the State government failing to get special status and railway zone besides special funds for development of backward areas even after three years of being in power. Actually, he said that what Andhra Pradesh demand was nothing new but it only wants that the assurances given on the floor of the Parliament at the time of bifurcation of the State by the former Prime Minister should be implemented.
Asking Chandrababu Naidu to lead a fight against the Centre, the Congress leader said all political parties, workers, students, intellectuals and all other sections of people would stand behind him to get justice to the State.
Interestingly, the Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan also made a similar statement. Appreciating Tamil Nadu youth for conducting such a massive movement in a most peaceful manner, he too asked all political parties and youth the of the state to come forward for a similar agitation here seeking Special Status.
