Following the resignation bomb dropped by TDP MP J C Diwakar Reddy on Thursday, Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao issued orders to the officials in the district to release 200cusecs of water to Chagallu Reservoir. The Anantapur MP announced that he was quitting his post as he failed to develop his constituency and bring water to Chagallu.
However, being a TDP MP, resignation drama was uncalled for. What is he trying to convey to the ruling party? Was he trying to say despite being a TDP leader he is unable to develop his constituency?
Even though he publicly claimed that the water is for drinking purpose, as per reports Diwakar Reddy’s family possesses hundreds of acres of land in the ayacut of Chagallu Reservoir and needs water for irrigation during the Kharif.
Also, family politics are playing a key role. The TDP supremo neglecting his family members who are in politics displeased the Anantapur MP. He is reportedly piqued by Chief Minister’s failure to take a note of Olympic association issue between Galla Jaydev and his son Pawan Reddy who met Chandrababu thrice. However, Pawan denied the reports. Also, his nephew MLC Deepak Reddy’s arrest in trespassing of land followed by suspension from the party did not go down well.
Another possibility is that, taking a leaf out of Nandyal development, Diwakar Reddy might be trying to get TDP leaders on ground for development in his constituency after the seat falls vacant following his resignation. In press conference Diwakar Reddy said that there were forces working against the development of his constituency making obvious reference to MLA Vaikuntam Prabhakar Chowdary. The local legislator is said to be against widening of roads and betterment of the drainage system and even engaged in verbal fight at municipal council meeting.
It would be interesting to note if he will backtrack on his resignation after the issues are resolved.
