East Godavari district has been turned into fortress ahead of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham’s indefinite fast from tomorrow. While police made East Godavari district out of bounds for outsiders in view of the fast , chief minister Chandrababu Naidu urged the newly appointed Kapu commission also known as Justice Manjunadha Commission to start the work immediately. He made the request when Justice Manjunadha called on him at Vijayawada on Thursday.
Members of the Sub Committee appointed to guide the state government on the Kapu reservation also present in the meeting held at CM’s Office, Vijayawada.
Justice Manjunadha agreed with the request of the Chief Minister to start Commission’s work immediately and assured that the commission would submit the report within nine months. The commission functions with Vijayawada as Head Quarters.
The Chief Minister directed the Officials to issue orders relating to the terms and references of the Commission immediately. Deputy chief minister N Chinna Rajappa, Ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, P Narayana, Kollu Ravidra and Ravela Kishore Babu participated in the meeting. Justice Manjunadha said people were welcome to meet the commission to present their views on the inclusion of Kapus in the BC list.
On the other side, East Godavari District Superintendent of Police Raviprakash has announced that no outsiders would be allowed into the district. In view of the proposed hunger strike by Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham and his wife on Friday outsiders would not be permitted into the district, he said.
As many as 10,000 police personnel had been posted in the district to prevent any untoward incident and 58 check-posts had been setup at all the entry points into the district, the SP said. Four rapid action force platoons have also been deployed.
In the meantime so far there has been no response from the government on the demand put forth by Mudragada even though he had set Thursday as deadline. Responding on this home minister N Chinna Rajappa and urban development minister P Narayana said government had conveyed its views to Padmanabham through media. So, now it was the responsibility of Mudragada to spell what what his exact demand was.
