Going by the latest developments in Karnataka, BJP is likely to receive a shock from the Election Commission. After videos relating to Gali Janardhan Reddy close aides in talks with judiciary officials went viral on the internet, the EC asked the news channels not to telecast the videos.
The EC, which doesn’t have any control over the online media/WhatsApp groups, failed in stopping the video from being shared. In this context, the Congress party has approached the Election Commission and requested the EC officials to declare Sriramulu as a disqualified candidate.
In the sting operation videos, Sriramulu is seen bribing the judiciary officials/mediators, offering Rs 160 crores – Rs 500 crores to make sure Gali Janardhan Reddy is acquitted from all the cases. In a highly diplomatic statement, the Congress leaders requested EC to be unbiased and sought the permission for the release of those videos on news channels.
Putting aside the EC’s decision, the latest leaks are a huge setback for BJP party. With less than 12 hours for the Karnataka State Assembly elections, the recent videos have caused enough damage for the saffron party.
