In view of devastating floods in Chennai and several other coastal districts in Tamil Nadu ,Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao instructed the organizers of International Indian Film Academy to cancel the proposed Utsavam-Celebrating the Cinema of South.
The CM said it was not the right time to organize and celebrate IIFA awards- scheduled to kick start from Friday. Earlier in the day, he offered all help to the TN government in providing flood relief to the affected people.
Telangana government is one of the important sponsors of the Utsavam and it has contributed Rs 2 crore to the program which is being organized by Whizcraft.
Normally organized with Bollywood theme, Whizcraft this year planned to launch South Indian version of festival with a title ” “IIFA Utsavam” to celebrate vibrant South India movie culture. However, the CM has announced that the event could be postponed to January. He has also called upon movie stars of the South to come to the aid of the floods victims of Chennai..
