Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has strongly condemned the TRS Government for not extending the 12% quota to Muslims in the ongoing recruitment drive.
Shabbir Ali said by extending the term of Sudhir Commission of Inquiry till March 31, 2016, the TRS Government has found an excuse to delay the implementation of promise of providing 12% reservation to Muslims in jobs and education. Muslim students already lost two academic years and job aspirants did not get 12% share in the ongoing recruitment through Telangana State Public Service Commission and other agencies.
Shabbir Ali demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao stop misleading the Muslim community on the issue of 12% reservation. He should directly constitute a Backward Classes Commission to implement his promise. He said that the Sudhir Commission has no legal sanctity and it is not empowered to recommend any reservation. It can only provide latest statistics related to Muslim backwardness. This was confirmed by none other than Committee’s member Dr. Amerullah Khan in an open press conference. He said that the data related to Muslim backwardness is already available with the State Government which it collected through Intensive Household Survey. By analysing the existing data, the State Government can easily provide reservation through a BC Commission, he said.
The Congress leader described the Sudhir Commission as a ‘time pass’ committee and by extending its term for another six months, KCR emulated former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who kept on extending the term of Puttuswamy Commission for nine years. The Puttuswamy Commission was constituted by the Congress Government in 1994 to provide reservation to Muslims in the State. However, the then TDP Government just extended its term and finally Puttuswamy resigned from his post after nine years without giving a single line report. The Sudhir Committee too will meet the same fate, he feared.
The Congress leader demanded that TRS Government immediately constitute a BC Commission if he was really serious on providing 12% reservation to Muslims.
