Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who was seen avoiding conducting assembly sessions, is now turned more liberal and agreed to continue ongoing winter session of the assembly beyond Sankranthi.
During 2016, only budget session was conducted for a short period of 10-days and later a special session was held for a day to approve GST bill. But surprisingly, already winter session exceeds period of budget session to 15 days. In recent times never winter session was held for so many days.
Last year, the regular monsoon session was avoided. Speculations were ripe expecting winter session also would be avoided. However, the session was called for December 16. Originally it was felt for a week time. But the government agreed for 11 days and promised to extend after New Year for one more week, if the opposition insisted. The session was resumed on January 3.
Though the government agreed to continue this session till January 11, Congress members sought to postpone session on 9 and 10, as they need to take part at party’s protest programmes in New Delhi against demonetisation. Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy made this request personally meeting Chief Minister and also Speaker S Madhusudana Chary.
Respecting the request from the main opposition party, the government is learnt has decided to give holidays for the session from January 7 to 16 and it would be resumed on January 17. Officially it would be decided today at the Business Advisory Committee meeting.
