Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao laid the foundation stone for revival of the lift irrigation project Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) at Pochampad village on Thursday. TRS leaders said that the project is lifeline of Northern Telangana. Speaking at the public meeting, Chief Minister said that water crusade started in Telangana only after the TRS government came to power. He came down heavily on the previous governments and said that they made fraudulent promises regarding irrigation water.
KCR said that the Andhra rulers never gave waters for irrigation in Telangana. He held that Nagarjuna Sagar which gives water to Andhra Pradesh is shining bright while the SRSP of Telangana is in ruins. He said that the foundation stone for SRSP was laid by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. From the past five decades, the stage 2 and stage3 of the project have not been accomplished. The CM said that the waters will be filled in SRSP from next year under any circumstances from the Kaleshwaram project.
He said that they will overcome obstacles created by Congress in the form of court cases. He noted that more than 90 cases were reported in the courts against Kaleshwaram project alone. KCR deplored that Political advantage is important for Congress than giving water for irrigation.
He assured that SRSP would be developed into a delightful tourist destination. He considers himself fortunate for keeping up the promise to revive SRSP which he made in 1996. The CM aspires to make the state Haritha Telangana and Bangaru Telangana.
