The day long interactive session with the SC, ST MPs, MLAs and MLCs of all the political parties, held by the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, yesterday at his official residence, has seems to be succeeded in making the opposition silent from criticising his government as `anti-dalith’.
Just two weeks ago, the winter session of the Assembly had witnessed heated debate on fees reimbursement and also SC/ST Plan, for which the government practically failed to give satisfactory reply to them. Since the beginning of Chandrasekhar Rao’s regime, the opposition accusing him of as `anti-dalith’, pointing out several of his promises to dalits failed to be materialised. They include from the promise of making a dalit as the first Chief Minister of the Telangana state.
In yesterday’s meeting also, Chief Minister didn’t give any specific assurances. But the opposition parties seems to be satisfied with the gesture of the Chief Minister for discussing various issues so patiently with them.
Admitting lapses in implementation of various programmes intending to the development of SCs and STs, the Chief Minister asked the law makers of respective communities, to take up the task of preparing programmes and also allocation of funds, instead of asking government every time. On his part, he promised them the government will execute whatever proposal they put forward before the government.
While former minister and TRS MLC Redya Naik took this opportunity to praise the Chief Minister stating that he was working with commitment for the implementation of the Sub Plan, TDP MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah said establishment of residential schools for the SC/ST communities was a welcome step. Congress MLA Sampath described the meeting of the SC/ST public representatives to discuss at length about the SC/ST Sub Plan was a revolutionary step.
However, Chief Minister remained polite. He asked the Congress MLA not to praise the government now. “Wait for some more time till there is perceptible change in these communities”, he said. Telangana Congress Party Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who was known as a bitter critic of the Chief Minister became excited and said a welcome step made for the development of SCs and STs should be hailed.
