Hyderabad: Congress party seems to be heading towards losing its main ‘Opposition Party’ status in Telangana Assembly if its strength falls below 12 in the Telangana Assembly. If this happens, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will remain as CLP leader for one session of Assembly.
The ‘Operation Aakarsh’ launched by TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao is creating tremors in the Congress party. The grand-old party won just 19 seats, TDP two seats, while TRS bagged 88 seats in the Assembly elections held in December 2018. TRS friendly party AIMIM retained its seven seats in Hyderabad city. Two rebel candidates after elections joined TRS taking the total strength of the pink party to 90 in the 119-Assembly.
Already two Congress MLAs — Atram Sakku and Rega Kantha Rao– announced their intention to join TRS. Subsequently, two more Congress MLAs have decided to support TRS. Latest is Sudhir Reddy, who won on Congress ticket from LB Nagar Assembly constituency, is in the line of MLAs to join TRS. Former home minister in the united AP and Congres Chevella MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy is reportedly joining TRS, while another Congress MLA K Upender Reddy is also looking to TRS.
However, KCR didn’t want Congress MLAs to quit Congress to join TRS, but preferred cross-voting in the recent MLC elections. As a result, TRS comfortably won four MLC and allocated one seat to its friendly party AIMIM.
Out of 19 Congress MLAs, six almost confirmed their support to TRS. If eight MLAs leave Congress and support TRS, then Congress party will lose its main ‘Opposition Party status’ in Telangana Assembly very soon.
