There is nothing apolitical about our social life. Especially the water we use is highly politicized. Water has become so politicized that it is combustible in politics.
Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wants to separate water and politics to remove fire from the former. His theme appears to be fight politically while sharing water amicably.
After almost finishing the Telugu Desam Party in Telangana, KCR, as Chandrasekhar Rao is popular among the people, said he wants cordial relationship with Andhra Pradesh with regard to the water utilization. ” We can prosper when have cordial relations,” he said while giving power point presentation in Assembly yesterday.
Telugu Desam party has been terribly upset by the political strategy of KCR. Twelve MLAs out of 15 MLAs of Telugu Desam party recently joined TRS making the party almost invisible in the Assembly of 115. If sources are to be believed, of the three members, another two also have been contacted by TRS mediators. Their continuance in the party looks uncertain.
But in water front, KCR said he wants cordial relationships with Maharashtra in upper reaches and Andhra Pradesh in downstream. Stating that Telangana suffered due to the policies of United Andhra rulers, the T-CM said,” Now we don’ want our water get caught up in inter-state disputes. While we were caught up in these dispute, Maharashtra and Karnataka build about 450 dams upstream . This can’t be undone now. So, We want to adopt a policy of ‘ live and let live’ without neighbors in order to facilitate the completion of all pending projects,” he said.
KCR was all praise for Chandrababu Naidu for completing the Pattiseema project on time. ” Leave aside political dispute over Pattiseema in Andhra Pradesh. I will appreciate Naidu for completing the project so quick,” he said.
He also wants Naidu utilize Godavari water fully. ” Let Andhra Pradesh Cm plan few more schemes ( like Pattiseema) to avail the Godavari waters which flows into sea if not utilized. He can take the water on one side upto Visakhapatnam and on the other, towards Naidupet and Kalahasti in Chittoor,” he suggested.
” When I visited Vijayawada to extend invitation to Naidu for my Ayutha Chandiyagam, I suggested to him that AP can explore taking surplus water in Godavari to Kalahasti and Naidupeta in the South and upto Vizag in North,” he recalled.
Let’s wait for Naidu’s reaction!
