Hyderabad: The famous Balapur laddu is auctioned for a whopping Rs 14.65 lakh this year. Following the plea from the Hyderabad City police, the Ganesh Utsav Samithi started the auction of Balapur laddu early on Thursday morning.
About 20 bidders took part in the auction but only four remained in the race as the laddu went for a whopping amount. Bidder Skylab Reddy bagged the laddu. Festive atmosphere is seen all around the Balapur town with the shouts of “Ganapathi Bappa Moriya” as people bid farewell to Lord Ganesha on the 11th day of Ganesh Utsavalu.
Balapur Ganesh laddu, which is known for bestowing prosperity for the successful bidder, was auctioned for Rs 10.3 lakh in 2015 and for Rs 9.05 lakh in 2014.
Breaking from tradition, famous 58-foot tall Khairtabad Ganesh is all set for immersion before Thursday noon.
Since there would be delay in idol immersions late in the evening every year in the Hussain Sagar, the police urged the Ganesh Utsav Committee to complete the immersion procession early to avoid traffic snarls in the major bottlenecks in the city.
Heavy security blanket has been thrown on the city for Ganesh immersion. Total of 800 video cameras have been set to monitor the final day festivities across the city.
The Telangana government has declared September 15 (Thursday) holiday to corporate offices and educational institutions in Hyderabad. However, November 12 will be a working day in lieu of the holiday on Thursday.
