Telangana BJP leader Kishan Reddy was detained by Khammam police. He went to visit the Khammam Market yard and talk to the farmers. Section 144 of Cr PC is in vogue in Khammam. Kishan Reddy led a rally with his supporters to the Khammam Market Yard. Police arrested the leader for alleged violations of 144 which restricts the movement of people in groups.
It may be recalled that after last week’s violence, Khammam Market Yard is under the control of police as per the instructions from the collector. Police said Kishan Reddy was rushed to the Khammam Rural police station. Kishan Reddy demanded the TRS government to pay bonus apart from buying the produce at the Minimum Intervention Price suggested by the central government.
Centre on Wednesday announced it would buy the chilli at market intervention price(MIP) of rupees 5,000 per quintal till May 31. Andhra Pradesh is paying bonus of rupees 1500 per quintal, while Telangana government is yet to make an announcement
Khammam has been witnessing a wave of political protests from past one week by all the parties including TDP, Congress and Left parties CPI (M), CPI and CPI (ML-New Democracy). While the BJP leaders were arrested today, TJAC leaders were detained last week. All the political parties claim that they are not afraid of arrests and will work till fair price is provided to Chilli farmers. Meanwhile, Chilli farmers continue to feel miserable over the state of affairs.
