Kingston Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating: 2.25/5
GV Prakash Kumar is one of the busiest music composers and he often tests his luck as an actor and he emerged as a successful actor in Tamil cinema. His next film Kingston is having a simultaneous release in Telugu along with Tamil. Kingston is his 25th film as an actor and he also co-produced the film. The concept of Zombies in sea was never presented in Indian cinema and Kingston revolves around the plot. Here is the review of the film:
Story:
Kingston happens in the coastal village of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. A series of deaths leaves the village in pain and fear. The villagers predict that Stephen Bose (Alagan Perumal) is the man behind the deaths and they kill him. The villagers also predict that his soul is taking revenge against them. His mortal remains are dumped in the sea. The villagers never went for fishing in the sea for 43 years. All these work for Solomon (Chetan) and Martin is the head of the village. King (GV Prakash Kumar) is the most trusted person for Martin and he is mad of money. Due to an unexpected incident, King heads for a fight with Solomon and the rest of Kingston is all about what happens next.
Analysis:
Kingston has a series of plots about fishing in the sea, smuggling, zombie concepts and the wealth in the sea. The film also has a love story along with a revenge drama. The film starts on an interesting note and the audience would wait curiously about what happens next in the village. The episodes of King fail to impress the audience but they introduce the characterization of the lead actor. King changes on a sudden note which is not acceptable. Solomon’s role is not powerfully written and presented.
The film turns interesting after the villagers enter into the sea for fishing. The trailer revealed that the film has the concept of Zombies and their entry takes longer time. But the episodes of Zombies are not impressive. The entire second half of Kingston is clumsy and is filled with confusion. This is because of the multiple layers and genres involved. Though Kingston has interesting twists, they are not revealed in the right manner. Kingston reminds us of NTR’s Devara but the film has a horror backdrop. Though Kingston has the right concept and plot, it is not executed in an engaging manner.
Performances:
GV Prakash Kumar is known for picking up unique scripts. Kingston too is a right pick. He also worked hard with perfection for the role of King. Divya Bharathi’s role is half baked and sounds forceful. All the other faces are Tamil actors in Kingston. They have done justice for their roles in Kingston.
GV Prakash is a renowned music composer and he works extra mile on his films. But the music in Kingston is not appealing. All the songs will not appeal to the audience. The background score impresses the audience. The episodes that are shot in the sea are well presented. The film has quality on the budget in which it was made. Kingston is a sound film technically. The dubbing work for the Telugu version was quite poor. The director picked up a unique script but he failed with the execution because of the too many plots and the genres.
