Kites of different shapes and sizes soaring up the sky, Sankranti message wall, well organized volunteers helping people, food counters to fulfill all cravings, children running in joy with kites and double dose of music – that’s how Kite Fest in Hyderabad is welcoming its visitors.
The second international kite festival is being held for six days from January 12 in Hyderabad and two other districts in Telangana. The event is being held in coordination with Telangana Tourism and Incredible in the 100-acre campus of the Aga Khan Academy near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad.
The highlight of the fest are the remote controlled kites which is first of its kind in India.
KITE FEST 2017 is dedicated to the cause of women empowerment through girl child education. It goes by the testimonial to “fly a kite for a girl child and colour the sky for a cause”. PV Sindhu, Telangana state icon is the official face of the fest.
The participants are from 17 countries including France, Indonesia, South Africa, Japan, Singapore, Singapore, Australia, Scotland – UK, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Italy, Ukraine, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Poland. They are joined by kite-flyers from across the country including Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Karnataka; Baroda and Mangalore.
The area has several food stalls, tattoo and mehindi stalls, kite stalls and handicraft stalls. Telangana Traditional dances were being performed by the artists. The kite fest will be held in Yadadri and Warangal Urban districts apart from Hyderabad.
