Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Chairman M Kodandaram deplored that the ruling TRS government is going back on its promises made to the people of Telangana. He also said that the government has deviated from its goal and was neglecting the welfare of the people.
Speaking at Telangana Vidyavanthula Vedika workshop, he recalled that the TRS government came to power promising water and employment for people. However, he said none of the promises were fulfilled.
He alleged that K Chandrasekhar Rao government was preparing budgets for few individuals and corporates while ignoring the welfare of the people. He said that the budget should be prepared with peoples’ participation.
Though one lakh jobs were promised, Prof Kodandaram said that only around 5,000 were made available over the last two-and-half years. On one side, he said the youth of the state is waiting for jobs. On the other side, he added that despite having several vacancies in various departments, the government has not taken any step to fill the posts.
To bring pressure on the need to fill up vacancies and provide employment to the youth, he said that TJAP will be organising `unemployed protest rally’ (nirudyogula nirasana pradarsana) on February 22 in Hyderabad.
Alleging that the government was detaining those who were questioning its functioning, he warned that “when government doesn’t perform well, the people will start questioning”. He said that the Governments should take it in a positive way.
However, he deplored that this government is targeting those who are raising questions. He asked intellectuals to question the government if they make wrong decisions.
Social activist Prof G Hargopal also said that if people do not question the wrongdoings of the government, there is no meaning of democracy. He alleged that the nation as well as the state were being ruled by people with feudal mind set who are suppressing democracy and intellectuals.
