Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stirred up a serious controversy by making a comment that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will be divided into four corporations and Hyderabad will have four Mayors after the next Municipal elections. This is a very serious statement, which will have ramifications across various spheres, and is it came from a senior leader in ruling party, now it has become a topic of heated discussion in Telangana.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy made these comments at an infrastructure-related summit held in Hyderabad on Friday. But it took time for the controversial comments to spread across and by Saturday, Minister’s comments on Hyderabad have led to a public debate.
The intent of Komatireddy was that as Hyderabad population is nearing 1.5 Cr, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) needs to be divided into four Corporations, for better administration and governance. While the merits and demerits of this argument will be debated further, it has certianly stirred up a hornet’s nest. Some are also seeing the comments made by Minister as irresponsible and dangerous, which can impact Hyderabad’s brand image adversely.
Hyderabad is the heart of Telangana and it is also the major revenue generator for the state. Inspite of being a traditional city with Deccan culture, Hyderabad emerged into a buzzing IT destination and safe haven for MNCs.
Successive Governments have taken great care in developing Hyderabad’s infrastructure and building the brand image of city. So, people in power need to exercise utmost diligence when they are dealing with Hyderabad. But it seems CM Revanth Reddy led Congress Government has absolutely no regard for Hyderabad brand image and Hyderabadis feelings.
Already Hyderabadis are worried over HYDRA and Musi demolitions. Now Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s comments that GHMC will be divided into four corporations is creating new confusion among Hyderabadis.
